Rain in SE WA the last few days has significantly improved the steelhead fishing on the Grande Ronde near Boggan's Oasis. We have been finding fish with the standard GR soup d'jour. Purple wooley buggers, GBS's, and Max Canyon's have all pulled fish this week. Black and red 1/8 oz jigs 4 feet under a float have been deadly. Backtrolling plugs and tossing spinners has also been working effectively. It continues to rain as I write this Wed PM, which should continue the great fishing up until the winter water temps arrive in Dec. There are still some days open for a fall Grande Ronde trip that I promise you will never forget. Check the calendar page for up to date open days. Oh, yeah. It's that time of year again. This is THE year. GO ZAGS!

Fall Steelhead Season is NOW! Please read.
on Monday 03 September 2007 - 09:54:25 | by HousedaddyHi Friends,
The steelhead season opened here in Clarkston yesterday and although there were 100+ boats, my daughter and I still managed my three fish limit of bright chrome steelhead before my son's football game at 9:30 am. The fish were all mint chrome and the flesh is the best of the year. We just finished one off the BBQ with Walla Walla sweets and a little lemon. TASTY TASTY! There are twice as many fish over Lower Granite dam right now as compared to last year. This should lead to huge number's of steelhead to be caught the season. With a little rain this October the Grande Ronde season should be unbelievable.
NOW FOR THE DEAL. My family and I have moved to Asotin this summer. Being right here gives me the opportunity to offer my internet clients a great bargain for the month of Sept. I am offering morning trips (6 hours) for up to three people for only $225 TOTAL. I provide all tackle, bait, drinks, and snacks. You supply Wa fishing lic and steelhead catch record card. This offer is only good Monday thru Friday until Sept 28th. If you ever wanted to go on a guided steelhead fishing trip but thought it was just too much money, here is your chance. Grab your kids and lets go battle some crazy fighting steelies.
If you are looking for the most spectacular scenery and best steelhead fishing in the same package, the Grande Ronde river is the place. I will be drifting and guiding the outrageous Grande Ronde River in our 16 ft Lavro drift boat or our new 16 ft Aire cataraft. I am cutting back my Grande Ronde trips from now on to preserve the serenity and high numbers of fish to be caught each day for my best clients. This has been almost 10 years in the making, but I have decide to do the right thing for the river, and all persons concerned. I will be offering Grande Ronde trips only from Oct 23 rd until Nov 23 rd. Not counting weekends, this leaves us only 23 days of fishing. The last three years from Oct 1 st thru Nov 25th I guided 45 days. This leaves a big shortage of days, but unfortunately it is what it is.
What this means is that if you want to float the Grande Ronde with me this fall, call me and lets make plans asap. It is just around the corner. 509-869-1444 The price for the Grande Ronde float trip is $375 for up to three. I include all needed fishing items, as well as lunch, drinks, and snacks. Please check the website www.sts-fever.com for more info on steelhead fishing and two great video's of catching these great fish last Sept. Hope everyone has had a great summer and this email finds you home froma safe labor day weekend.

Summer Chinook King Salmon Fishing Report 8-01-07
on Thursday 02 August 2007 - 17:31:58 | by Housedaddy
The first large batch of fish have arrived and we have been catching multiple fish daily, with many hook-ups and lost fish as well. The big Kings are a powerful fish that fight hard and the sometimes the smallest mistake easily turns into a lost fish. Only July 31, we had our 6 fish limit back to the dock by 9:15 am. The 2nd annual Brewster King Salmon Derby is Aug 4th, 5th, and 6th. I will fishing the derby this year with my family. Wish us all luck. My son Sam still has the big fish for my boat this summer with a fat 27.5 pound bright buck. It took Sam 40 minutes to conquer this beast. His persistence was rewarded with this hog in the picture below. WAY TO GO SAM! On a side note, my daughter Madison caught her first Walleye while we were Salmon fishing, and it turned out to be a lunker 10.9 pound HOG! I wish I could say like father like daughter on this catch, but I have never come close to catching a pig Walleye like hers. Congrat's Madison. I will be fishing for the Kings for the next month, let's chat and get you hooked up with a trophy of your own.

Smallmouth Bass Grande Ronde Fishing Report 06-03-07
on Sunday 03 June 2007 - 19:41:06 | by Housedaddy
The June 1st opening was the opportunity for a family trip with my friend John, and his and my boys. We floated the canyon stretch and caught lots of nice smallies on a variety of lures and flies.
The boys had the time of their lives. We caught lots of respectable smallies and a few nice resident rainbows. We hit big pay dirt with the Alaska big Bow special, the deer hair mouse. On its first cast Saturday morning, the largest fish of the trip inhaled the mouse as it bounced off the rock cliff face into the water. Watch for the video of all the action on the website next week. If you love top water action on the fly, don't miss it. I'm back on the river Mon and Tues and will add another report Wednesday. Come on a float trip soon to see for yourself.

Here we go again. Bring on the Smallies 5-30-07
on Wednesday 30 May 2007 - 21:06:18 | by HousedaddyIt has been a nice two months off work from guiding and spending lots of time with my family and practicing my golf game. BUT, the time is near for the Grande Ronde river 2007 fishing season which starts June 1st. The water is at an unseen level of 2400 cfs for opening day which should lead to some trophy smallmouth bass opportunities in the next few weeks. I'll be fishing most of this week and booking trips for the next. Check back midweek for new pics and fishing report. The trophy smallmouth season on the Grande Ronde is short, but VERY sweet. Come get a taste for yourself.

Grande Ronde Steelhead Fishing Report 4-03-07
on Saturday 07 April 2007 - 16:34:58 | by Housedaddy
The water on the Grande Ronde river has continued to amaze us all with its high conditions yet amazing water clarity. The weather has been on and off, 70 and sunny, then 40 and blustery. The fish seem to be in a more positive biting attitude during the unsettled weather days. Sunny days have caught you a sunburn, but not many fish. The Steelhead derby is still ongoing until April 15th. The winning fish is still 9.8 pounds, so I know there is a 10 pound winner sitting in the Cottonwood run right now as I write this. I have three dates left available until next for for Grande Ronde Steelhead fishing. April 11,12,and 13th are open if water continues to hold like it has. I'm off for the weekend to camp with my family and go after some spring fatty rainbows at Lake Roosevelt. Drop me an email if you need one last steelhead fix. HAPPY EASTER to all........Rick
